About
I started working in the computer industry in the early 80’s. PC based networking became popular in the late 80’s to the early 90’s. I began my network professional career as a Certified Novell Engineer in 1991. During that time Novell garnered over 90% of the network market share. Microsoft owned the desktop market during that time. Some of you may even remember MS-DOS. A few years later, Microsoft began setting their sights on the server and network market. Meanwhile, Novell in what I would say was their biggest blunder, decided to challenge Microsoft for the desktop space. Novell purchased Word Perfect, Digital Research’s DR-DOS, and a product called Univel. This divided the company into 3 separate directives in which it lost focus on its core product, Netware. This chaos was just the opportunity that Microsoft needed to begin challenging the king of the networks with its own server product called Windows NT. The rest they say is history.
I am privileged to have been able to witness this evolution in technology. I have learned a lot during that period. One thing which is not only true in technology but also true in business and life in general. Change is inevitable. How you choose to embrace change is what matters.
I grew up on a farm. Like most rural kids, upon graduating high school I was determined that I wanted to move to the big city because the rural life was not for me. Age and experience are an interesting duo. The more of both that you accumulate the more confident you are in your decisions. After spending 10+ years in Kansas City I made the best decision ever. It was time to come home. I came back with a stronger sense of value of family and also what I wanted to do with my life.
After working a few years in Sedalia promoting and delivering IT Services, I started Lamm Technical Resources LLC in 1999. I now have 9 outstanding individuals working with me. They share the same passion for technology and I couldn’t think of doing all of this without them. I am very proud of the friendships that I have built with many of my clients. Our relationship truly extends beyond the boundaries of mere ‘computer guy’ and ‘customer’. For me it is all about the relationship with my clients. We help each other grow.
Change for me was inevitable. I was instilled with a strong work ethic from my parents. Thanks Mom and Dad. Working on the farm was just life. You didn’t think about how easy or hard it was. It was (and is) just who you are. I like being back home. The difference is change. I am married, have grown children and a granddaughter. I meet with corporate clients to discuss their technology needs during the week; early mornings and weekends I work on the farm raising cattle. Talk about change. So as I said earlier, Change is inevitable. How you choose to embrace change is what matters. For me embracing my two passions, rural living with my wife and family and owning a technology practice are the perfect balance. It makes getting up every morning an adventure.
Thanks for joining me for the adventure. By the way - did I mention that I’m a big Calvin and Hobbes fan?
